The Entertainer (aka The Ticket-Taker Rag)
She is the last to be admitted,
her face the first to be omitted
as the house lights go down
in the ramshackle bar in town
where nightdreams are permitted.
Sense and impulse bicker
with the oblivious city slicker,
his whiskeyed eyes too far gone
to see her in the back, watching on.
